Acoustic Rubber Underlay for Impact Sound Reduction
A dense, resilient acoustic underlay manufactured from fully recycled rubber granulate bonded with a cold-cure PuR elastomer binder. Supplied in rolls in five thicknesses from 3mm to 10mm, it is laid beneath the finished floor on timber or concrete subfloors to reduce footfall (impact) noise passing through the floor structure. Its high mass density of 730 kg/m³ and continually elastic structure mean it does not compress and go dead in the way that cheap foam underlays do.

Construction
Fine-structure rubber granulate is bonded with a cold-cure polyurethane (PuR) elastomer bonding agent and formed into a uniform sheet, then supplied in rolls. The sheet is homogeneous through its thickness, so it can be cut on site with a sharp trimming knife against a straight edge without delaminating.

Rolls are heavy. The 6mm 12.5 m² roll weighs approximately 58 kg and is a two-person lift. Please allow for safe handling on site.
Installation
- Ensure the subfloor is structurally sound, clean, dry and free from protruding fixings, dust and debris.
- Allow the rolls to acclimatise flat in the room before laying.
- Roll out the underlay and butt the edges tightly together. Do not overlap sheets.
- Cut to size with a sharp trimming knife against a straight edge.
- Lay the finished floor over the underlay in accordance with the floor manufacturer's instructions.
Follow the manufacturer's fitting instructions supplied with the product for the specific build-up being constructed. On projects where a measured acoustic result is required, the floor build-up should be designed by, or agreed with, an acoustic consultant.
Maintenance
None required once installed. The underlay is fully concealed beneath the finished floor and is not intended to be exposed or walked on directly.
Suitability and limitations – please read before ordering
- Acoustic performance is a property of the whole floor, not the underlay alone. The impact and airborne sound reduction achieved depends on the complete build-up – the structural floor, the ceiling below, any resilient bars, cavity insulation and the floor finish. We do not publish a single dB figure for this product, because a figure quoted out of context is of little use on a real project. If you need certified laboratory test data for a Building Regulations Approved Document E submission or for pre-completion testing, please contact us before ordering and we will request the relevant test reports for your intended build-up.
- No integral damp-proof membrane. A separate DPM must be specified where a moisture barrier is required over concrete or screed.
- Underfloor heating. Compatibility with underfloor heating is not confirmed for this product. Please enquire before specifying it over a heated floor.
- Fire classification. No reaction-to-fire classification is stated by the manufacturer for this underlay. Where a classified build-up is required, please enquire.
- Interior use only. Not intended for external or permanently wet locations.
- Sold by the roll only. Cut lengths are not supplied.
Delivery
Delivered palletised or kerbside depending on order size. Someone must be available on site to receive the delivery and assist with unloading. Please check the goods before signing. Delivery to Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands and some remote postcodes may be subject to a surcharge or may be unavailable – please contact us before ordering.
