Why this mesh rather than a cheaper one or a rigid grid

• 33% more slip resistance. A patent-pending extrusion builds the anti-slip surface into the profile itself. Tested alongside other grass protection meshes to BS 7976-2, it showed an improvement of over 33%.

Installation

You will need: a hammer, scissors or shears, steel U-pin connectors and a tape measure. One person is enough.

• Prepare: mow the grass short and clear debris. Ground should be firm and well drained.
• Unroll: lay the mesh flat over the area and secure both ends with U-pin connectors.
• Join: to cover a wide area, butt the edges together and pin each section. Overlapping one mesh cell and pinning through both layers also works.
• Pin down: pin each side at least every 1m, and anywhere the mesh does not sit flat against the ground. Add more pins on slopes and exposed edges.
• Dress: apply a layer of grass seed dressing, or topsoil and sharp sand, to help it knit in.
• Grow through: grass typically comes through in 4–8 weeks in the growing season, locking the mesh into the root zone.

How long it takes: a single 20m line takes about 10 minutes. A 20m grid takes under 30 minutes. A 200m² area takes roughly 2 hours, depending on ground conditions and site layout.

Important: do not exceed 5mph when driving on the mesh, and allow the grass to establish before putting it under regular vehicle load.

What colour is it?
Green. It is supplied in green only and there is no colour choice. The darker strands you can see in the close-up photos are the raised anti-slip surface.

Which grade should I choose?
9mm for foot traffic, wheelchair access and occasional car use. 11mm for caravans, 4×4s and light commercial vehicles. 13mm where HGVs, fire engines or refuse trucks need access. If you are between two, go up a grade.

Can I park a car or caravan on it?
Yes, with 11mm or 13mm. Once the grass has grown through and the mesh is pinned, it supports cars, 4×4s, caravans and light commercial vehicles on firm, level ground. Keep to 5mph.

Do I need pins, and how many?
Yes — the mesh must be pinned down. Allow for pinning each side at least every 1m, plus extra on slopes and edges. Steel U-pins are not included; call us and we will work out the quantity for your area.

Will I still be able to mow?
Yes. Once the mesh has bedded in flat, mow on a slightly raised setting as normal.

How is it different from plastic grids?
Mesh stays flexible and follows ground contours, keeps the lawn looking natural, and is faster and cheaper to install than rigid grids. Grids suit permanent, daily, heavily loaded traffic.

Can I use it on a slope or embankment?
Yes — flexibility is the reason it suits embankments. Pin more frequently on slopes and at every edge.

Is it suitable for a front garden driveway?
It is permeable and SUDS compliant, which is usually what matters when surfacing a front garden. Check your local planning requirements before starting.
