What this gravel grid is

Loose gravel that scatters across the drive, sinks into ruts or leaves puddles after heavy rain usually means the stone has nothing to key into, and this gravel grid locks decorative gravel in place to create a firm, permeable driveway or path that stays flat for years. Each interlocking honeycomb panel sits below the stone, invisible once filled and raked level.

Panels are moulded from UV-stable polypropylene with a porous geotextile membrane bonded to the underside to stop weed growth and soil migration. Overlapping membrane edges on two sides join neighbouring panels into one continuous, 100% rainwater-permeable surface. Once filled with 4–12mm angular gravel, a filled panel supports a compressive load of around 300 tonnes per square metre — comfortably taking cars, vans and pedestrian traffic.

How many panels do I need?

Each panel covers 0.96 m². Divide your area in square metres by 0.96 and round up — we suggest adding 5–10% extra for cuts and edges.

Laying in four steps

1. Excavate 60–80mm below finished level and lay a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base.
2. Lay the panels membrane-side down, overlapping the membrane edges so the grid joins into one surface.
3. Interlock neighbouring panels and trim edge panels with a hand saw or angle grinder where needed.
4. Fill with 4–12mm angular gravel to around 10mm above the cells and rake level.
