Barefoot safety you can lay yourself, one tile at a time

Rolls are the right answer for a corridor. They are the wrong answer for a changing village with benches, pillars, shower bays and drains in the middle of it. These are soft EVA tiles, 33 × 33cm and 15mm tall, that click together into one continuous drained surface and cut around whatever is in the way.

They carry DIN 51097 Classification C — the highest barefoot wet-area slip rating there is — and the EVA has anti-microbial and anti-fungal additives through the material. The embossed top grips wet skin without being abrasive, and the whole tile stands clear of the floor on integral feet so water drains away underneath rather than pooling where people walk.

Why tiles rather than a roll

• They fit awkward rooms. Around pillars, benches, shower trays, gullies and doorways — cut one tile, not a whole roll.
• They go in without a fitter. Click them together by hand. No adhesive, no tools, no specialist labour.
• They are repairable. Damage one tile and you replace one tile.
• They ship by parcel. A box of 27 covers 2.94 m² and comes on a pallet-free carrier, unlike a 55kg roll.
• They are soft. EVA, not rigid PVC — noticeably kinder underfoot than a hard tile on a cold wet floor.
• They lift for cleaning. Unclip a section, clean the floor beneath, clip it back.

How much do you need?

Tiles lay on a 33cm module. Count the edging by the running metre of exposed edge: about three pieces per metre. Where a run finishes at a wall, a step or a doorway you need none.

Laying them

• Start from the most visible straight edge — usually the pool edge or the longest wall — and work back into the room, so cut tiles finish where they are least seen.
• Click, do not force. The tabs engage with hand pressure; a rubber mallet is never needed.
• Cut with a sharp knife around pillars, gullies and bench feet. EVA cuts cleanly.
• Edge what gets crossed. Any edge in the middle of a floor is a trip point — snap the ramped piece on. Edges that die into a wall or a step need nothing.
• Leave the drains accessible. Cut around a gully rather than over it.

Tiles, or a roll?

• These tiles — complex rooms, DIY fitting, phased work, or where you want to replace damaged sections individually.
• Heronrib 10.5mm roll — long open runs and pool surrounds where a continuous roll is quicker and there is little to cut around.
• 6mm open grid roll — the lightest option, easiest to lift and relay daily.

Cleaning

Hose or mop in place with an alkaline cleaner at the dilution its maker specifies, then rinse through. Every few weeks unclip a section and clean the floor underneath — that is where hair and fibres collect. EVA is non-porous, so nothing soaks into the tile itself.

Will chlorinated water affect them?
No. They are made for pool and spa environments. For heavily dosed plant rooms, call us before ordering.

Are they comfortable?
Soft EVA rather than rigid PVC, so yes — noticeably kinder underfoot than a hard tile, and warmer on a cold wet floor.

What if one gets damaged?
Unclip it and click a new one in. Keep a few spares from the last box.
