Where it works — and where it does not

This is the right mat for:

• Pool surrounds and poolside walkways — the job it is built for. Water drains through instead of sitting on the surface.
• Communal showers and changing rooms — barefoot traffic on wet tile, which is where most wet-area slips happen.
• Saunas, steam rooms and spa circulation areas.
• Boat decks, pontoons and wash-down areas — PVC is non-porous, so it does not soak up water or swell.

Choose something else if:

• Wheeled traffic needs to cross it. Trolleys, wheelchairs and pool hoists do not run well over an open slatted profile. Ask us about solid anti-fatigue or ribbed matting instead.
• You need a certified slip rating for a specification. No independent PTV or R-rating is published for this mat — see the specification table below. If your spec demands a tested figure, call us and we will quote a rated product.
• It is going down a fire escape route or a doorway threshold without being recessed or edged — any mat that sits proud of the floor is a trip point at its edge.
• The area is dry. A drainage mat in a dry room is just a trip hazard with holes in it.

Laying and looking after it

• Measure the run, not the room. Matting only needs to cover the path people actually walk — pool edge, shower entrance, the line between changing room and water.
• Lay it loose. It does not need adhesive. Its weight and the wet floor hold it in place.
• Cut around obstacles — drain gullies, ladder feet, corners — with a sharp knife along a slat.
• Edges matter. Where a mat ends mid-floor, that edge is the trip point. End runs at a wall, a step or a doorway wherever you can.
• Lift it to clean. The floor underneath needs cleaning as often as the mat does. Hose both, let them drain, put it back.
• Out of season, clean it, let it dry and roll it up rather than leaving it down on a dry floor.

Frequently asked questions

How wide is it? Can I get it wider?
610mm (61cm), fixed. There is no wider version of this mat. For a wider walkway, lay two or more runs side by side — two runs cover 1.22m, three cover 1.83m.

Can I buy a shorter length?
No. It is sold as a full 5m roll only. Cut it to the length you need with a sharp knife, and keep the offcut as a spare or for a second area.

How thick is it?
The manufacturer does not publish a thickness figure and we will not invent one. Call 01282 277786 and we will confirm it before you order. If the height matters because of a door clearance or a threshold, tell us and we will check it specifically.

Will it stand up to chlorinated pool water?
PVC is not attacked by chlorinated water the way natural rubber can be, which is why duckboard matting of this type is the usual choice around pools. For heavily dosed plant rooms or areas exposed to concentrated dosing chemicals, call us before ordering.

Does it have a slip rating?
No independent PTV or R-rating is published for this mat. It works by draining water away and giving a ribbed surface to grip, rather than by a tested anti-slip coating. If you need a certified figure for a specification, an insurer or a risk assessment, call us and we will quote a rated alternative rather than sell you this one.

Can I cut it to fit?
Yes. Cut along a slat with a sharp knife or heavy scissors. Cut rolls cannot be returned, so measure first.

Is it comfortable barefoot?
It is a hard PVC slat, not a cushioned mat — comfortable to walk on barefoot, but it is not an anti-fatigue mat. If people stand in one spot for long periods, ask us about cushioned wet-area matting instead.

Can I push a trolley or a wheelchair over it?
Not well. Small wheels catch on the open slats. Where wheeled access is needed, use a solid ribbed or anti-fatigue mat — call us and we will point you at the right one.

Will it go mouldy?
The mat itself is non-porous PVC, so there is nothing in it for mould to grow in. What does grow mould is whatever collects on the floor underneath a mat that is never lifted. Lift it and hose the floor when you clean the mat.

How do I join two rolls?
Butt them together end to end. They are not mechanically joined, so on a long run check them occasionally and nudge them back together.

Does it come in a longer single piece?
