Tufnol 10G/40 Grade Sheet 1.6–16mm | Glass Epoxy Laminate
Price shown updates with the option you pick.
Tufnol 10G/40 is a woven glass fabric laminate bonded with epoxy resin, supplied in olive green.
10G/40 is the high-performance electrical and mechanical grade of the Tufnol range. Woven glass cloth gives it far higher strength, stiffness and temperature resistance than the cotton-based grades, and the epoxy resin gives excellent electrical insulation with very low moisture absorption. It is the standard choice for insulating panels, busbar supports, terminal boards and precision machined components that must hold their properties in damp or warm conditions.
Key Features
- Material Composition: Woven glass fabric reinforced with epoxy resin (equivalent to EP GC 203 / G10 type laminates).
- Colour: Olive green with the glass weave visible on the face.
- Mechanical Strength: Very high flexural and compressive strength, with excellent dimensional stability.
- Electrical Insulation: High dielectric strength and low loss, suitable for high-voltage insulation and busbar work.
- Temperature Resistance: Continuous working temperature around 130°C.
- Moisture Resistance: Very low water absorption, so electrical and mechanical properties are retained in humid conditions.
- Machinability: Machines, drills and profiles cleanly with carbide tooling. Use dust extraction.
Applications
- Electrical Insulation: Busbar supports, terminal boards, switchgear barriers and insulating panels.
- Precision Components: Spacers, wear plates, jigs and structural parts needing high stiffness.
- Transformer and Motor Parts: Slot wedges, end plates and coil supports.
- Cryogenic and High-Temperature Fixtures: Where cotton laminates lose strength.

Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes are available?
Thicknesses from 1.6mm to 16mm in panel sizes from 300 x 300mm up to 1200 x 1200mm, 54 options in all.
What is Tufnol 10G/40 made of?
Woven glass fabric bonded with epoxy resin. It is not a cotton or paper phenolic grade.
How does it differ from Whale and Kite grades?
Whale and Kite are cotton fabric phenolic laminates for mechanical parts. 10G/40 is glass epoxy, which is stronger, stiffer, more heat resistant and a far better electrical insulator.
Can this material be machined?
Yes, with carbide tooling. The glass content is abrasive and produces a fine dust, so use extraction and a mask.
Is it suitable for electrical applications?
Yes. It offers high dielectric strength and is widely used in switchgear, transformers and busbar systems.
What are its moisture absorption properties?
Very low, which is why it keeps its insulating and mechanical properties in damp environments.
