Slip-resistant matting for floors that are permanently wet, greasy or cold

A 15mm two-layer PVC mat built for the floors that actually cause accidents — the wash-up aisle, the bottling line, the walk-in chiller, the parts wash bay. Liquid does not sit on this mat. It drops straight through the open grid and runs away underneath, so the surface your staff stand on stays drainable even while the floor around it is flooded.

The top layer is a set of wide PVC ribs running the length of the roll, each one moulded with a raised diamond-cut tread for grip in every direction. They sit on cross-bearers underneath, which lift the walking surface clear of the floor, open a drainage channel beneath it and give the springiness that makes it comfortable to stand on for a full shift. The whole mat is one flexible piece — it contours to uneven floors, trims with a knife and rolls up to carry out for cleaning.

Why this mat rather than a solid rubber one

• R11 slip rating, V10 drainage. Tested to DIN 51130. V10 is the displacement-space class — a measure of how much liquid the mat can take away from underfoot, which is the part most anti-slip mats have no answer for.
• Non-porous PVC. It does not absorb grease, blood, brine or coolant, and resists bacteria and mildew, so it does not go sour. Rubber and textile mats do.
• Works cold. Rated −23°C to +60°C. It stays flexible in a freezer instead of going brittle and cracking at the edges.
• Anti-fatigue. Manufacturer test data (University of Hertfordshire, 1997) records a 10% reduction in operator fatigue against a bare hard floor.
• Chemical resistant. Resistant to most acids, alkalis and oils — suitable for engineering coolant, food acids and standard caustic washdown chemicals.
• Fire rated and warranted. Classified Cfl-s1 to EN ISO 13501-1 and backed by a four-year manufacturer warranty.
• Lifts and rolls. Pick it up, hose both the mat and the floor beneath it, drop it back. No lifting a sodden rubber slab.

Two versions

Standard — available in black, blue and red. The plain mat, for general wet-area and workstation use. Three colours let you colour-code mats by zone where your site uses a colour scheme.
Black with Yellow Safety Edge — the same black mat with bright yellow bands along both long edges, so the boundary of the walkway is visible from a distance and under poor lighting. Use it where the mat defines a pedestrian route through a working area. The bands mark the edge; where people step on or off across an exposed edge, add ramp edging as well.

Choosing a size

Three widths — 0.6m, 0.91m and 1.22m — supplied as full 5m or 10m rolls, plus two pre-cut modules in black.

• 5m and 10m rolls — for runs along a bench, a line or a gangway. Rolls trim easily on site with a sharp knife, so if your run falls between sizes, take the next one up and cut it to fit. Per square metre, a 10m roll works out cheaper than two 5m rolls.
• Pre-cut modules (1.2m × 0.8m and 1.5m × 1.0m, black only) — factory-fitted ramped PVC edging on three sides, ready to drop in front of a single workstation, bar station or machine with the open side against the bench.
• Runs longer than 10m or wider than 1.22m — butt rolls together and join them with connector clips or snap track.

Edging and fixing

Everything needed to edge, join and hold this mat down is on one page — matting accessories: ramp edging, snap track, connector clips, floor hooks and cold weld paste.

• Exposed edges — PVC ramp edging in 60mm or 100mm, or aluminium edging where the edge takes heavy or wheeled traffic. All in the 14mm height made for this 15mm mat.
• Two runs butted together — connector clips underneath, or 14mm snap track for a flush joint that will not creep apart.
• Holding a run down — floor hooks screw-fix through the mat into the slab where it sits in a busy gangway.
• Welding edging — one tube of cold weld paste per 10m of edging or snap track.

Cleaning

Hose down in place, or lift and pressure-wash both the mat and the floor beneath it. No special tools are needed. For a deeper clean use an alkaline cleaner at the manufacturer's recommended dilution.

Common questions

What about pallet-truck or trolley routes?
The diamond tread stops the odd trolley skidding, but the mat is built for standing and walking traffic. Where a regular wheeled route crosses, break the run at that point and finish both ends with aluminium edging — or send us the layout and we will specify a heavier-duty mat for that section.

My run is shorter than a full roll — what do I order?
Take the next roll size up and trim it on site, or ask us to quote a cut length. An offcut is useful in front of a sink or a single workstation.

Is it safe for bare feet?
Yes — it is used poolside and in changing areas. The tread is moulded into the rib rather than abrasive, and the mat drains so the surface does not stay puddled.

Will it survive a chlorinated pool environment or a caustic washdown?
Yes to both. The PVC is non-porous and resistant to most acids, alkalis and oils. For an unusual or concentrated chemical, send us the substance and concentration and we will check it against the manufacturer's resistance data.

Can I use it in a cold store or freezer?
Yes — it is rated to −23°C and stays flexible where rubber goes brittle. For a blast freezer colder than that, ask us before ordering.

Can I use it outdoors?
Yes. The PVC resists UV degradation, but red is not colourfast in direct sunlight, so choose black or blue for outdoor runs.

What is the fire rating?
Cfl-s1 to EN ISO 13501-1, the European reaction-to-fire classification for floor coverings.

How do I trim it to fit?
A sharp utility knife is enough — cut between the ribs along the length, and through the ribs across the width. Allow up to 2% for reversion, more in a hot room.

Do I need edging?
Only on edges people walk over. A run tucked against a wall or a bench plinth does not need it; a mat sitting in the middle of a gangway does. Take the 14mm height from our matting accessories page. Pre-cut modules already have it on three sides.

What warranty does it carry?
Four years from the manufacturer, on top of your statutory rights.
