A 200 litre lockable grit bin for storing rock salt and de-icing grit where it is actually needed – at the car park entrance, loading bay, footpath or estate road. Moulded in one piece from UV-stabilised polyethylene in high-visibility yellow, it holds roughly eight 25kg bags of salt and stays outdoors all year without rusting, rotting or fading.

Construction

Rotationally moulded polyethylene gives a seamless body with no joints to split. The polymer is UV stabilised so the yellow pigment resists sun bleaching, and the material is unaffected by salt, so there is nothing inside to corrode. A lipped lid overlaps the body to keep water out of the stored salt, and the lid hinges at the rear so it cannot be mislaid.

Specification

Installation

No fixing is required for normal use – the bin is positioned on any firm, level surface. On exposed sites it can be bolted down through the base or chained to a fixed point. Site it within easy walking distance of the surface being treated and leave clearance at the front for the lid to open fully.

Maintenance

Rinse the inside with clean water at the end of the season and allow it to dry before storing salt again. Wipe the lid seal area clear of grit so the lid closes properly. No painting or rust treatment is needed.

Suitability and limitations

Designed for dry granular material – rock salt, white de-icing salt, grit and sand. It is not a pressure vessel, not a liquid container and is not rated for storing chemicals other than de-icing salt. The padlock point deters opportunist theft but the moulded body is not a security enclosure. A padlock is not supplied.

Supplied as a single bin. Padlock and salt are not included. Bins of this pattern stack for storage, so multiples can be ordered and kept together out of season.
