The two parts that finish a surface-laid entrance mat: ramp edging so feet and wheels roll on smoothly, and joining strip to make a tight, level seam between lengths.
These are made to fit our 6.5mm solid-back entrance matting and carpet-insert entrance matting. If you lay the mat on top of the floor rather than in a mat well, fit ramp edging to every edge people walk across. If your entrance is wider or longer than one roll, join the lengths with joining strip.
WHICH PART DO I NEED?
| Ramp edging | A flexible PVC ramp, 30mm wide and 6.5mm high, that slides under the exposed edge of the mat. It gives a smooth slope from floor to mat for trolleys, wheelchairs and heels, and stops the edge from lifting or catching toes. Supplied as a 120m pack, in black or dark grey. Cut it to length with a sharp knife. |
| Joining strip | A thin black PVC strip, 3.5mm × 3.6m, that sits under the seam where two lengths of mat meet, keeping the joint tight and level. Weld the mats to it for a permanent joint on large installations. One strip joins a 3.6m seam. |
| Mat well installation | If the mat sits flush in a mat well, you don't need ramp edging. You may still need joining strip for wide entrances. |
HOW MUCH DO I NEED?
- Edging: measure every exposed edge that people or wheels will cross. A single 1m × 3m mat in the middle of a floor has 8m of edge. Round up.
- Joining strip: measure every seam between lengths of mat, and divide by 3.6m. Round up.
- Welding paste: not included. Allow one tube of cold weld paste per 10m of edging or seam. It's available on our matting accessories page.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need edging?
Only if the mat is laid on top of the floor. Every exposed edge that people or wheels cross should have ramp edging, to prevent trips and let trolleys roll on smoothly.
Can I buy edging by the metre?
The edging comes in a 120m pack. If you need a shorter length for a single entrance, ask us for a price.
Does it fit other mats?
It is sized for our 6.5mm solid-back entrance mats. For thicker mats, see our matting accessories, which has 10mm and 14mm edging.
